I had the privilege to see Four Tet live in Amsterdam around 2018. I must have missed this album, because it was missing in the other 8 albums I already have. And what a find. Sometimes Four Tet needs some time to appreciate, but this album is very open and friendly. PlayItLoud!
Favorite: Parallel 9! LOVE IT! The recorded bird (or whatever it is) is so unexpected. And the simplicity and the elegance of the piano/melody mixed with this bird-like flute. (Or bird? Is it a bird?) LOVE! writerjune
Ever since this came across and I took a chance on its intrigue, this has been one of those albums I knew I would absolutely be owning forever. It's such a mesmerizing, cohesive piece and once the symphony steps in, it becomes utterly transcendent. It's one of the best pure pieces of music I've ever heard. I hope one day to hear a live performance, even if it's local musicians and a symphony, just to hear it in that space. giventofly87
This is 20 years old now in 2019 and still bangs. Starting with "Glasshead," Four Tet selects radiant and jazzy samples to keep the track flowing. (Check WhoSampled and see for yourself). "Calamine (Radio Mix)" takes the party late into the night with some radio tuning effects. Four Tet's back catalog contains a treasure trove of heaters to listen on their own or to connect the dots and hear the development of his sound...one that is unique, beautiful, and full of emotion.
